Defying Gravity is a MUST HAVE for every Wicked fan.

In her nonfiction narrative that reads like a novel, author Carol de Giere reveals how Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman worked closely together and what creative struggles all the Wicked collaborators endured to make it the hit that it became. I could not put this book down. I read it straight through in one weekend. There is such depth of detail and so many wonderful stories. Stephen Schwartz has had quite a journey, and I loved taking that journey with him through Carol de Giere's exciting book. If you love the theatre, you MUST get this book. Bettie in Oakland

I love this book! It's hard for me to put it down. I love WICKED, but have recently been in Godspell, so this book totally appealed to me. It was pretty awesome to see the journey that his career to turned out to be. It's fun, too because I feel that I would have reacted similarly to him in a lot of situations. Get this book if you love Stephen Schwartz's works or just really love WICKED!!! - Maria, future actress, Chicago
